The Human World (also called the World of Chaos) is the plane of existence in which humanity resides in and is a member of the Trinity of Realities. It is the realm where the majority of Bayonetta games take place.

Shortly after its creation from the First Armageddon, the God of Chaos, Aesir, was charged with ruling the realm and did so. However, upon taking sympathy for humanity's naive nature, he granted two clans each half of the Eyes of the World. Both clans would become known as the Lumen Sages and Umbra Witches, who were charged with the responsibility of being an overseer. This change granted them the power of creation and human free will, though it also split Aesir into two beings of good and evil: Loki and Loptr.[1]

The Human World is split into many divergent parallel universes, dispersing its power across all of them equally. The Main Universe is the particular timeline where Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 take place, with many other timelines being explored in Bayonetta 3.

Trivia[]

  • It is suggested that the timeline where Bayonetta 3 takes place may itself be an alternate timeline; however, the Bayonetta variants that resemble her appearances from the first and second games have both hinted that it occurs in the Main Universe and/or a timeline that had been nearly identical to it up until the events of the game. In an interview with director Yusuke Miyata, he declined to answer if the game's Bayonetta was the alternate version from the first game, and went on to state that whether the game's setting is the main or alternate timeline is left to the player's imagination.[2]

  2. Game Informer (Vol. 32, No. 9, Issue 350), pg. 30 - Miyata: I can neither confirm nor deny whether this is the grown-up version of Cereza. Since this game involves the multiverse concept, she could be Bayonetta from an alternate universe who happens to look just like Cereza, or it could be the grown-up Cereza. I'd like to leave this up to the players' imaginations as they enjoy the game.
