Enochian is an actual real-world language that was recorded in the private journals of the occultist John Dee and his colleague Edward Kelley from the late 16th-century England. Claiming to have discovered the language with Kelley acting as a spirit medium, both men claimed that the language was delivered to them by real angels, and also had alternate names such as the Celestial Speech and the Language of Angels.
In Bayonetta games, both the Angels of Paradiso and the Demons of Inferno use Enochian as their preferred manner of speaking. The language is also used in a range of incantations by the Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages to use specific abilities or summon otherworldly partners to aid them in battle. The Umbran Elder was fluent in Enochian.
Incantations[]
Incantations using Enochian are made throughout both of the games by Bayonetta, Jeanne, Balder, and Rosa in order to create various effects. The ones used are listed below in the order of incantation, meaning, and effect.

Trivia[]
- Interestingly, the Bayonetta: Bloody Fate anime uses some of the wrongfully interpreted Enochian chants that were circulating at the time, instead of internal translations. For instance, Jeanne would exclaim "EMNA OL" ("herein I"), whereas according to the game files, the chant is "NANAEEL" ("my power"). Similarly, Bayonetta chants "A GRAA ORS" ("Moon of darkness"), instead of "ADRAMAN" (name of an evil spirit).
- Similarly, and more recently, Morgana's unused voice lines from Bayonetta Origins:CatLD show that she too used an erroneous Enochian chant. Although the use for it is unknown, she chants "LASTA SA PIADPH", which was wrongfully used before "CASASAM PIADPH" was discovered. "LASTA" is not a word in the Enochian dictionary.
- In the first two games, Angels and Demons spoke in Enochian and subtitles were provided for translation. In the third game, they instead spoke the main language of the game (English, Japanese, etc.) for the convenience of players.
